A present to myself

In a previous blog post (‘Medal hangers and bib displays’) I mentioned that I’d fallen in love with a gorgeous, but super pricey, medal hanger: I’d had my eye on it for a while, but it’s American, and with a $75 price tag and $45 shipping cost, I was hesitant. I researched this medal hanger thoroughly, triple-checking that it’s not available in the UK, and couldn’t find a trace of it anywhere outside the US. I checked the website frequently, hoping for a sale or reduction of some sort. The medal hanger seemed perfect, as it’s one of my favourite quotes by an inspirational lady, and it has the capacity to hold a large amount of medals. I’ve collected a fair amount of them over the last few years of which I’m very proud, and would love to be able to hang them all up. I can imagine this hanger would look stunning on a wall, filled with medals!
Anyway, I was fortunate enough to be in Florida for 12 days this month on a much-needed vacation. The long and the short of it is, I treated myself to the medal hanger! I didn’t have to pay shipping and was ecstatic that I could get my hands on something that I’d wanted for so long, and at a cheaper price than I’d initially budgeted. It’s an absolute beauty and I can’t wait to use it!

I’m still researching new events and building my race calendar for the forthcoming months. I’m sure my highlight of 2015 will be when I run my first ever half marathon, the London Royal Parks half in October. I was lucky enough to get a place in the ballot and am so excited; I’ve heard and seen great things about the event. I thought it was about time I stepped away from my ‘standard’ 10Ks, as I complete a 10K event at least once a month and no longer see them as exceptionally challenging; I’ve been stuck in a rut, I think. When one of my close friends entered and successfully completed the Brighton Marathon on a whim earlier this year after losing a lot of weight, and having never run an event before, I was truly inspired. If she can do it, of course I can, too. So I’m trying to have a bit more confidence in myself and my running abilities – no more Miss Comfort Zone! I’ve even bitten the bullet and entered into the 2016 London Marathon ballot… fingers crossed! My 2016 calendar is already bursting with the amount of races I’ve just discovered or would like to do but missed the boat for this year. It’s all so exciting! I do love running. 🙂
