London Legal 10K Walk 2018

I’ve been a Marketer at the Daily Mail & General Trust since February, working in their Property division which includes companies SearchFlow, Ochresoft and Landmark Information.

I organised for SearchFlow to be a sponsor of the London Legal 10K Walk a few months ago, as the event raises funds and awareness to support free legal advice charities in London and the South East. We thought about pulling an internal team together to take part, but as the event fell on a weekday at our busiest time of the year, the plans couldn’t really be finalised… Until the Friday before! With three days to go, branded SearchFlow t-shirts were ordered and travel plans were arranged as a group of us volunteered to walk the 6.1 miles around London.

London Legal 10K Walk 2018So on Monday 21st May, Team SearchFlow left the office at 2pm and jumped on trains and tubes to arrive at the Law Society in London by 4pm, where we signed in at the registration desk and picked up free drinks tokens (to be redeemed at the end of the walk) and a choice of two route maps: there was a ‘parks walk’ or a ‘river walk’. We opted for the latter and could start walking any time between 4pm-7pm, so headed off around 5pm after a quick tipple in a nearby pub.

The Start line area was decked out in lovely decorations: large balloon archways, bunting, entertainers on stilts, stalls selling merchandise; and food and beverage carts. It was bustling with a street party atmosphere. TV celebrity Judge Rinder was mingling around, greeting walkers and posing for photos, and we saw him at the right time when he didn’t have a queue around him, so said hello and took a few photos!

Enthusiastic marshals cheered us on en route and there was signage, too, so along with the map it was easy to find our way around. We plodded along with lots of other teams of walkers, and stopped in a pub at the halfway 5K point for another alcoholic beverage! It was a relaxed, chatty walk and the whole experience was really lovely.

I wore Ivy Park leggings, black 1000 Mile trainer socks with Nike Roshe trainers, a black USA Pro sports vest and my SearchFlow branded t-shirt, with a bum-bag containing the essentials: debit card, phone, keys, mints/gum, lip-balm and tissues! The weather was hot and sunny, so RayBans were invaluable.

London Legal 10K Walk 2018The Finish Line was back around in a loop towards the Law Society through a large balloon archway, where the Street Party was in full swing. The lane was rammed with walkers who had finished the 10K, all enjoying their free beverages. We collected ours from the Knights Templar bar, where there was a choice of beer, lager, small wine or soft drinks. We mingled for a bit and then headed off out for a team restaurant dinner around 7:45pm.

The event broke records with 13,000 walkers taking part in over 750 teams, and it was a lovely evening. It was relaxed and fun, and the free drink and photo with Judge Rinder were definitely the highlights! Although SearchFlow chose to be a paid sponsor, the event is free for all participants and you’re just encouraged to donate/raise sponsorship, which is very generous considering all of the entertainment, and the organisation and planning which goes on behind the scenes. So, if you work with/for legal professionals, I’d recommend signing up next year. 🙂
