Running postpartum

I’ve neglected this blog over the last few months, as I was heavily pregnant and then concentrating on looking after my newborn son. It’s been a busy time!

First run postpartum 5KToday I managed to complete my first run since giving birth ten weeks ago. I’ve been using my home exercise bike and walking every day, and finally felt ready to give running a go this morning. And I’m so glad I did! The initial idea was to start a gentle ‘Couch to 5K’ plan but I decided at the last minute to just follow my body and see what felt comfortable – and I ended up running 3.1miles! It was so good to be back out there and I naturally ran 5K without thinking about it. Ten minutes slower and ten pounds heavier than I was before, but with a whole new respect for my body and a renewed love for my favourite hobby  🙂

London Marathon You're In 2020I also caught up on what’s been happening with this years’ London Marathon. Receiving the ‘You’re In’ magazine through the post at the end of last year was so bittersweet. I finally obtained a place in the 40th race, after eight years of entering the ballot… But would be eight months pregnant on race day! Typical. I had to defer my 2020 entry and can’t wait to take part in the 2021 event – which will now be held in October instead of April. The event has been on my wish list since I started running back in 2012 and I’m so excited to take part. I’m slowing building my fitness back up postpartum, with this to look forward to next year. Who else is taking part in 2021?
